Start Capture
Many effects can be added automatically on the fly, while the screenshot is being made. These include drop shadows and shape effects, such as a stylish “torn paper edge” effect, and the ability to capture the mouse pointer, also with a shadow and special effects. The instant results are impressive – they look as though they had been made by a graphics designer. And the screenshots are stored automatically in the location and format set by the user (PNG, BMP and JPG are all supported).
Procedure...
If you move the mouse cursor at the upper screen edge, you will make the capture bar visible. Use this bar to capture and to configure the program. In the configuration menu, you can adjust your preferred snapshot-method. You would like to position the capture bar at another place (above, below, to the right, to the left) at the screen edge? You can change this in the general tab of the preferences.

(In this picture, the spotlight-effect was used)
Just select a capture method in the capture configuration and press "start the capture".
The capture bar
Discover it by simply moving your mouse cursor to the screen border to your right and you will make the Capture Bar appear. Use this technique whenever you want to start or stop a capture or access the application's configuration. Note that you can configure the position of the Capture Bar as well. Click the appropriate functions in the following picture, in order to receive more information about these functions.

Start the capture...
Click on the Snap-button on the floating toolbar in order to start the capture or alternatively use the assigned hotkey. Depending on which method you have selected, please proceed as follows:
Use automatic selection:
Every window beneath your mouse cursor will automatically be highlighted with a red rectangle. To capture the window hold down the Ctrl key and press the left mouse button.
Use pre-defined selection:
A red colored, previously sized rectangle will sourround your mouse cursor. To capture hold down the Ctrl key and press the left mouse button.
Use manual selection (Standard):
Hold down the left mouse button to draw a selection anywhere on your screen. Once you are finished you can capture that portion of your screen by clicking within that selection with the left mouse button.
Abort:
You can cancel the capture operation at any time by hitting the Escape key. What capture method to use and many other functions as well as the global hotkey can be customized in the application's configuration.
Once you have your capture, the program automatically moves you to the Edit Mode, where you can resize, rotate and add numerous special effects to your capture. When you switch to Edit Mode after making a snapshot you’re in for a surprise: No forest of icons and menus, just a clean screen with the image at the center. Moving the mouse to the top and sides of the screen displays a few simple but very powerful tools. For example you can erase areas, highlight areas, insert arrows, insert text, draw transparent and filled shapes and create an impressive “spotlight” effect to draw attention to special details. All practically with a flick of the mouse, and all with high-quality rendering for really sophisticated results!
The Tray-Icon...(right, lower screen edge)
Additionally Ashampoo Magical Snap can always be accessed by clicking on the orange icon in the SysTray in the bottom right corner of your screen.
