Winamp Quick Start

Setting up the server

After the RemoteAmp server software has been successfully installed on your desktop PC you will need to configure your media library settings before connecting a remote for the first time. To do this, first start the RemoteAmp server if it is not already running.

Select "Media Library" from the options list at the left side of the window. The Media Library settings screen will appear allowing you tell RemoteAmp where to find the music on your computer so it may be accessed through your Pocket PC remotes. To do this click the "Add..." button and select the folder containing the music files you want your remote clients to have access to. Once selected, click OK in the Add Folder dialog to add this folder path to your music library. If you wish to include the added folder and all sub-folders contained within it check the "include subfolders" option. Repeat this procedure until you have added all of the music library locations for your library, then click the "Update" button at the bottom of the screen.

RemoteAmp will now examine your digital music files so that they may be viewed and searched from your Pocket PC remotes. Depending on the size of your library this process can take up to a few minutes the first time it is performed - subsequent updates will only need to review changes and will happen much faster. When the update has finished server setup will be complete and you may connect a client to begin controlling Winamp!

Setting up a Pocket PC remote

The first time a Pocket PC remote client is started it will ask you to select the media player you would like it to control. After tapping the OK button to close the message box you will be taken to the Settings screen. Tap on the Controlled Media Player drop-down and select "Winamp" from the list of available players, then tap the OK button in the upper-right corner of your screen.

In many network configurations it is possible for a remote client to automatically find the RemoteAmp server on your network. To engage auto-discovery mode simply leave the Server Address box at the "(Find Automatically)" entry and tap Connect. If auto-discovery is successful you will be taken to the main RemoteAmp screen, otherwise a message will be displayed indicating that auto-discovery is not possible for your network configuration.

If Auto-Discovery Is Not Possible:

To manually specify the server address to connect to, enter either the server IP address or server name in the "Server Address" field. Both the server IP address and server name for your desktop computer are displayed on the RemoteAmp server's General setting screen.
